It was a Sunday afternoon almost two weeks ago and I was rocking Ellie before her nap. I was getting ready to give her the beloved WubbaNub pacifier and she started nibbling on my finger. And I instantly felt IT: her first little tooth poking through on the middle of her bottom gum. I immediately started crying a few tears. How could this be? How is my
baby old enough to have teeth?!?!
*Sniff*
I was surprised but I wasn't. We knew without a doubt that she had been teething and I had been checking her gums everyday. Nothing. For days. And then, all of a sudden, there IT was.
Yesterday--out of nowhere--I discovered another tooth starting to poke through on her bottom gum.
Slow down girl, you're growing and changing too fast.
Today we gave Ellie her first taste of solid food. I had been really dragging my feet on this. I mean, really.
I've been in denial of the fact that Ellie is indeed old enough to eat solid food.
With all the tummy issues we've had I worried how her digestive system will handle the transition. <---Jury's still out on this one.
And truthfully I was feeling overwhelmed with what I know is a pretty straightforward thing. But it's all so new to me and I want to do it
right!
We settled on sweet potatoes for the first meal. I had set very low expectations on how she would react to this new food and experience. I was prepared for plenty of disgusted looks and spitting the food back out.
The verdict? She liked it. Well, actually I'm not sure how much she actually liked the taste and texture of the food versus how much our teething girl liked chomping on the spoon and the bright color of the sweet potatoes. But still. I'll take it. You'll have to trust me on this one because I don't think the photos below do her pleasant reaction justice. After one taste she was actually leaning and reaching for more.
There were of course some silly faces involved and some looks of "What the heck are you feeding me?!?!?"Overall though Ellie seemed to enjoy it.
Next up: Avocados.
